College Student’s interpretation of Political Cartoons

Abstract

Political cartoons have been a part of the editorial section of the newspaper for a long time now; they are the visual representation of the news or an issue in the current. Interpreting these political cartoon have been a difficult task even for the people who reads newspaper regularly, while considering college students pupil who reads newspaper is very less. This study is conducted to find if political cartoons are interpreted by college students are not, if they do interpret do they get the correct information or not; if they couldn’t what is the reason for it, all these questions were discussed. A study on 20 college students was conducted to understand their knowledge on political cartoons to analyze their interpretation skills on political cartoons. It is also found that interpreting political cartoon is not as easy as college students think as most were not aware about the news.
