A Content Analysis of newspapers’ coverage of Rohingya Refugees’ deportation in India

Abstract

The study attempts to analyse the media coverage on the deportation of Rohingya refugees in India with special reference to the leading newspaper ‘The Hindu’ and ‘Times of India’. It is an effort to understand how media positions itself in the context of conflict-induced displacement and migration. The stories about Rohingya refugees’deportation published in ‘The Hindu’ and ‘Times of India’ was examined by analysing their patterns, frequency, area, and framing. The content analysis of newspaper reports pertains to the phase of Rohingya deportation in India from October 2018 to November 2018, published in ‘The Hindu’ and ‘Times of India’.
